Dave Riechert…..Our Latest Village Idiot Of The Week…….
I always thought Dave was a tank brain and he just proved me right. Especially when he got his knickers in a knot because John Carlson pointed out that he was now on the same side as Jim McDermott.
Well Dave, when you vote with idiots, you are an idiot.
Dave claims he voted against saving Terri Schiavo because his constituents [you know…all the people that will never vote for him again] don’t want the government involved in their personal affairs.
Okay Dave……..have you heard of the DEA and the IRS?
Those are just a couple of the parts of government that are in everyone’s business all the time. Are you going to stop them next?
Saving someone’s life, who can’t speak for themselves, is something I do want our government butting into. After all, if our government doesn’t protect the most helpless amongst us…then what is it good for?
What’s next Dave? Shall we kill children that aren’t perfect either? Just where do you draw the line anyway?
Should we have pulled the plug on Christopher Reeve? Oh that’s right…he was famous…he was safe.
And he was on real life support…not just a feeding tube. There are people all over the U.S. that are on feeding tubes for a myriad of reasons. Should we pull all their tubes on someone’s hearsay too?
Because that’s what this entire case is based on. Hearsay….
If you want to go on the theory that Judges have made the decision, think about this. The last thing the average Judge wants to do is override another Judge’s opinion/ruling. They are a lot like doctors that way. Have you ever had a problem with one doctor and tried to talk about it with another? It’s the rare, and honest, doctor that will step up to the plate and criticize one of his fellow M.D.’s
And they aren’t even elected officials.
We can never, never forget that Judges, for the most part, are nothing more than politicians and lawyers rolled up into a robe…...and they have agendas.
Like getting re-elected or appointed.
Ask yourselves this. Why is the federal judge sitting on his hands right now? Why has he not ordered the feeding tube to be put back in while he is deliberating?
Now if Terri dies while he is examining the case…he doesn’t have to make any decisions right?
And Dave, if you are going to follow this line of reasoning does that mean that you will have the guts to put forward a bill so that people can be painlessly put to sleep when they really want to be?
In a loving environment of their choice, with their family around them?
Because that would be a really, really good idea…….
I’m not holding my breath on that.
Because no matter what you think, starving/dehydrating someone to death is no good deed.
They say politics make strange bedfellows…....well, Dave, you just sided with the same people that oppose the death penalty for people like Ted Bundy……..

Obviously this has become a very passionate issue and I wonder why it did not get this much attention before.
I would back the husband because the husband should be the one to talk for his wife, but with all of the information about his actions before and after the accident I do not trust him. Now the courts should be the ones to decide, but how many judges do we go through before they rule one way or the other.
I will tell you right now, I have to wonder if Terri is able to think and feel and at this point I am not sure but if she is what must she think of the tug of war, what she must feel being starved to death, this needs to come to an end and in the mean time we need to make Terri feel as comfortable as possible.
It does bother me that congress has gotten involved and it has become political, but with Terri’s whishes being uncertain at least in my opinion why do we (quoting the President) not “error on the side of life”

Interesting to see that of the 100 House Democrats who voted on this bill, 47 voted YES, and 53 voted NO.
47% of voting Dems, sided with "most" Republicans.
When the Democratic party looks in the mirror, does it see two faces? (47% right, 53% wrong). This wasn't a simple "let's make education better" type of bill. This was a moral, philosohpical, "where is your soul?" bill.
Perhaps 47% of Dems are voting FOR it BEFORE they vote against it.

"Euthanasia" Killings in Nazi Germany
(http://www.holocaust-trc.org)
Forced sterilization in Germany was the forerunner of the systematic killing of the mentally ill and the handicapped. In October 1939, Hitler himself initiated
a decree which empowered physicians to grant a "mercy death" to "patients considered incurable according to the best available human judgment of their state of health." The intent of the so-called "euthanasia" program, however, was not to relieve the suffering...
then or now? getting scared yet? remember this, who was not present when the senate voted?

Yeah, I understand and thanks for hearing me out Christmasghost.
I had to comment again, because I took the poll on the King5 website on who should decide Terri Schiavo's fate. I voted for her parents, as I am the father of a teenage girl, so I'm biased, but an overwhelming majority voted for that d#ckhead husband.
If he was more credible, then I probably would have no problem with it, for as a husband myself, I would like to think that I could have a say in our immediate family matters. But this is a case where Democrats are now blindly voting in support of him, because it's the thing the Democrats support.
I want to see a Democratic politican step up and disagree with the removal of the feeding tube. I know there's a few that exist, but is afraid to step up to the plate and disagree with their own party like Reichert has.

Voting against your party should NEVER be excercised when someones LIFE is at stake.
Posted by: chardonnay at March 21, 2005 07:21 PM
brother_easy,
I understand what you are saying and I would never want any Republican to march in "locke"-step...that's the lefties thing. BUT,he was totally uninformed and just listening to his initial whining about how many flights he had to take made my skin crawl. Oh please! Terri wishes she could have those problems.I was more worried by the fact that he was more concerned with looking like an ass for voting with McDermott...than he was worried about doing the wrong thing.

I cannot stand Shiavo for wanting to see his wife slowly starve to death. I guess it's the best of two evils and staying alive and being conscious of your surroundings, although communication lacks, is much better than dying a slow death. The lights just don't shut off....they dim over a period of time and that sickens me.
With that said, my views are not blinded by only one party, as conservative as I am, but admire Reichert's stance, although I totally disagree with it.
It takes courage for him to voice his opinion without the Republican's blessings. Yeah, we could say, "That's Bullsh#t man! Stick with the team!"
But I now trust him more for going against the grain rather than supporting something that his party supports, but he doesn't deep down, just to apease them and be a good conservative. That's honesty.
He's still a very good conservative and stands up for the Right. He just has a difference of opinion on this particular subject.

OHHHHH.....very very good question!! What is that Judge having for dinner tonight?
Posted by: christmasghost at March 21, 2005 06:50 PM
ok, I was just proven right by Rep Capuano-D-MASS who just said on Hannity that he ONLY had 3 days to catch up on the Terri case. I did it over the weekend and I have a child to look after. A US Rep has his own office, a computer, assistants, etc. Sorry but that is no excuse.
Ghost, try and find the transcript of the CNN interview of Larry King and the 2 ratbastards tonight. I wonder what the Judge is having for dinner tonight.

Clearly the Sheriff did not read ALL the facts. He was very uninformed on the details. Is this how the KC Police Dept followed thru with search warrants under the sheriffs watch? Disturbing. How could he actually vote on something this important when he obviously did ZERO research. I have uncovered a million facts, from both sides, just over the weekend. WOW, the internet, they got that in the Capitol right? This is not just about a so called living will, or what Terri's wishes MAY have been. This is about LIFE, a human life. I am very concerned how someone can look at her and say she is already dead. Will I be next, while I sleep? Maybe because I am not a Democrat? Becuase Michael Schiavo, again on Larry King tonight, spouted off those "right winger" words again.
Hmmm, life or death....good vs evil. This is much more profound than we may all realize. this is absolutely a turning point for all of us.
