Good grief. "Doctor" Phil and Shoshana need to get over themselves.
No, a Major and a psychiatrist will NOT deal with certain issues the same way a lay person would, and one would think a psychologist would recognize this. Suppose you have a horribly mangled corpse. Three people come across it; a regular dude like you or me, an EMT worker, and a coroner. Regular Dude is most likely going to freak; nothing in his experience or knowledge has prepared him for this. EMT may or may not freak; he's had some experience with this sort of thing. Coroner will probably not freak at all; his experiences and knowledge puts him in this situation almost daily.
As a psychiatrist, this terrorist thug would not be as likely to succumb to the affects experienced by his patients by the simple fact that he has more exposure than most people. It's not 100%; nothing in psychiatry or psychology is based on absolutes. Subject A will deal with trauma differently than Subject B, and Subject C will respond differently than either of the previous two subjects. But the doctor will be studying ALL THREE RESPONSES, thereby increasing his knowledge and making himself less susceptible.
Shrinks can have mental problems, just like anyone else. But they also have the means to recognize such problems, which gives them an advantage in resisting them.
What "Doctor" Phil suggests is that all murders are committed by crazy people. So does that automatically add the insanity defense to all murder cases?
Of course not. It's a question of rationality. I have little doubt that this Major was perfectly rational; he knew what he was going to do, he planned it, he made preparations for it, and he carried it out. It wasn't insanity, it was plain and simple evil. His "religion" demanded that he take this action; to convert/enslave/kill the enemies of Islam, as per the call to Jihad and the prescribed means in Islam, as laid out by their false prophet, of dealing with anyone who is not Islam. He tried to convert and was called down repeatedly for proselytizing. He could not enslave through Dhimmitude. That left him with murder.
Islam is a cult that commits human sacrifice as part of its required worship. What is human sacrifice, if not the taking of a life to satisfy the desire of a worshiped being? I see no difference between a Satanist sacrificing a human to receive blessings from the Devil, and an Islamist murdering his own child to satisfy Muhammed's warped sense of honor, and a terrorist slaughtering people in the name of Allah.
And yes, I fully recognize that thousands were killed in the name of Christianity. The difference is that this was not an act demanded by Christ's teachings; on the contrary, Christ did not condone killing. Those who killed in His name were NOT following Christ's teachings; they were perverting them, and in most of those cases completely ignoring them.
Muhammed, on the other hand, DOES demand death. He condones murder, rape, child molestation, dismemberment, mutilation, slavery, oppression, genocide, theft, and deceit. None of these things are considered sins in Islam, under some very flexible circumstances. In Islam, anyone who is not a believer is an enemy, so killing them is not only okay, it's DEMANDED. You can feel free to rape your wife (as defined as forcing sex onto an unwilling partner) or anyone else; for a woman to accuse a man of rape, she has to have at least three male witnesses that corroborate her story. Otherwise, SHE will be punished, possibly even executed. Muhammed recommended that the best time to take a bride is BEFORE she starts menstruating. He practiced what he preached by taking a bride at the age of NINE and consummating with her when she turned TWELVE. Islam is perfectly okay with chopping of bits of human anatomy to make a point, and continues to practice female circumcision in many parts of the world. They have historically been at the heart of the slave trade for centuries; the first foreign war our country waged was against the Islamist Barbary pirates back when the ink on the Constitution was still drying. The pirates were capturing Christian sailors and passengers and selling them into bondage or ransoming them if they felt they could get a better price. Those who suffered under Dhimmitude had virtually no rights at all; an Islamist could murder a Dhimmi if he had a good reason, and that reason could be defined in any number of ways. Dhimmitude makes the old US standard definition of slavery look like a Barney sing-a-long. Islam has been calling for the death of all Jews all the way back when this "religion" was just a handful of idiots following a madman through the desert. They believe that everything belongs to Allah, and thereby belongs to Muhammed. As Muhammed's followers, therefore, everything belongs to them by default. And lastly, the practice of taqiyya allows an Islamist to tell any lie they choose, if it helps Islam; even to the point of denouncing Islam and spitting on a Quran, they would still be welcomed in Heaven as heroes.
THIS is what were up against, folks. This is Islam and the word of their false prophet. And the sooner idiots like Phil and Shoshanna pull their heads out of their asses and realize it, the better.

In his new book, "Christian Slaves, Muslim Masters: White Slavery In The Mediterranean, The Barbary Coast, And Italy, 1500-1800," Davis concluded that between 1 million and 1.25 million ended up in bondage.
"About 95 percent of slaves were males, and were often used as oarsmen in the pirates' galleys. Ruling pashas put the slaves in overcrowded "baths" called bagnes, and used them for hard labor in quarries, construction work and cutting trees," Davis said.
In the absence of written records such as custom forms, the historian developed a new methodology to calculate the number of white Christians who were enslaved along Africa's Barbary Coast.
Using the best records available indicating how many slaves were at a particular location at a single time, Davis estimated how many new slaves it would take to replace slaves as they died, escaped or were ransomed.
It emerged that about one-fourth of slaves had to be replaced each year to keep the slave population stable. That meant about 8,500 new slaves had to be captured each year. Overall, this suggests that between 1530 and 1780 the number of slaves ranged between 1 million and 1.25 million.
"One of the things that both the public and many scholars have tended to take as given is that slavery was always racial in nature. But that is not true. We cannot think of slavery as something that only white people did to black people," David said.
During the time period Davis studied, it was religion and ethnicity, as much as race, that determined who became slaves.
According to the historian, slavery in North Africa has been largely ignored or minimized because scholars preferred to treat Europeans as "evil colonialists" rather than as victims. Indeed, countries that were victims of slavery, such as France and Spain, would later colonize the areas in North Africa where their citizens were once held in bondage.
