NY 23: What Have We Learned, Class?
What could have been a real wake-up call for the GOP was instead turned into a sterling example of the corruption in the Republican Party.
The fun begins with a liberal, pro-abortion, pro-card check, pro-tax hike, pro-ObamaCare, with strong ties to both ACORN and the Unions. That's the REPUBLICAN candidate, Dede Scozzafava. This woman makes Olympia Snow and John McCain look like rock-ribbed Conservatives. Try as I might, I can't find any greater difference between Scozzafava and the Dem nominee, Bill Owens, other than the letter behind the name.
So Dede "suspended" her campaign. Cute. It made sure her name was on the ballot as a spoiler. As I write this, the count stands at Hoffman-54,538, Owens-57,050, and Scozzafava's outright theft of 6,982 votes which could have reversed the count and given the House a Representative that would be far more likely to vote alongside the GOP than the Dems. This was nothing short of a vindictive sabotage of an election, handing a victory to the Democrats for the sake of yet another RINO.
Frankly, I'm not that big a fan of the Big Tent anymore. We go on and on about Obama's lack of vetting his cabinet and czars, but who is vetting for the Republican Party? Mr. Magoo? If a person is voting less than 50% of the time with the party, then why the hell are they in this party? The only logical conclusion I can find is that they are shills; liberals placed strategically within the party to bring about its downfall.
Dede's shenanigans, along with her endorsement of the Democrat candidate, paints a crystal clear picture of why so many of us are furious with the GOP. THIS is the result of letting "Moderates" run the party; a filibuster-proof Dem majority in the Senate, a staggering Dem majority in the House, and a Socialist in the Oval Office, plus the stigma of eight years of out-of-control spending and piss-all to show for it.
How about that, Newt? Still feelin' good about that endorsement? Was she worth losing that last tiny shred of credibility? How's that run in 2012 looking now?
And please, do not think for a SECOND that We The People don't realize what's happened here. Once again, you spat on the people you desperately need. You tried it in 2008 by shoving John McCain in our faces while elbowing more Conservative candidates like Fred Thompson in the groin. How'd that work out? McCain ended up looking like a fool, and the one bright star of that whole debacle, Sarah Palin, continues to rise. Why? Because CONSERVATIVES LIKE HER. So what do you do? You trash her! Brilliant strategy there, Napoleon. Attacking Palin while endorsing Scozzafava is like letting the dog crap all over the thousand dollar Persian rug so he doesn't stain the five dollar linoleum tile.
This was a wake-up call for the GOP, but they let Dede hit the snooze button yet again. But no matter how many times you roll over and snuggle down in your blankets, you still have to be at work on time. You've shown up late too often, ignoring the demands of your bosses, the voters. Come 2010, your asses are going to be fired.

Excellent post!
Malkin has an image of a disgruntled Republican return pledge card. I have sent back two already with similar comments.
This election is the first that I can recall where so many acronyms have evolved. RINO. AROO. DIABLOS. I'm sure there many more. I'm curious if anyone's developed a ranking order for them? Is a DIABLO worse than a RINO? Or an AROO less than a RINO?
I enjoy your blog so please, keep posting.

Not sure what an "Aroo" is, but as best as I can tell, a RINO is the same as a DIABLO. DIABLO just sounds more sinister.
As a fan of the Blizzard game, Diablo, I prefer to call them RINOs.

AROO = any Republician other than Obama
Posted by: mortus at November 4, 2009 05:27 AM
Ahh. Well, that indicates something that falls more in the public perception than the politician's particular bent. Technically, Fred Thompson was an AROO, certainly one of the most Conservative candidates in 2008 and clearly a better choice than Obama. But the RINOs and DIABLOs, those particular scum receive the label due to their own choice, to side with Dems on most issues.
So an AROO could be a very good thing, depending on the candidate, but the RINO and DIABLO remain douchebags, regardless of who they're running against.

AROO could, mind you could, be a good thing. But this story, via libertarianrepublican.blogspot.com, is troubling. Although I love the last line:
"Commented Preston on the main reason for the Switching: Today's election results with Republicans on the verge of a blow-out and the fact that "Obama's name is becomming poison here in Texas."

If Dems switch to GOP just to avoid the O stigmata, then what will stop the GOP from becoming RINO?
Due diligence on the TeaPartiers.

GOP is already mostly RINO, Mort. That's the problem. No, like I said, this Big Tent garbage needs to be brought into some semblance of self-preservation. the GOP, if it is to survive as a party, must start paying attention to those looking to enter, and start policing those already inside; if they are unwilling to boot those who constantly screw over the party, then they need to at least cut off the funding.

Those looking to enter?
I'm probably wrong here, but wasn't it Falwell's "moral majority" thing in the 80's that got the GOP back on track? And through both Bush's it lost its way? I'm not following you on who is trying to enter? The backbone has been pushed out hasn't it? At least that's what my understanding has been thus far.
I like Erick's take over at RedState.

The "who is trying to enter" thing was in reference to your concern that Dems trying to distance themselves from Obama will jump ship to the GOP.
To me, what got the GOP back on track (or at least closer to the track) was Reagan. Bush Sr got elected in '88 in the hopes that he would carry on Reagan's work, but instead he screwed it up so bad that we wound up with Clinton in '92. Then the GOP stupidly sent Bob Dole against the juggernaut and, predictably, got his ass handed to him. The GOP somehow managed to wrest the legislative branch from the Dems, then proceeded to behave much like the Dems they'd displaced.
Bush Jr enters the field in 2000 as the Lesser Of Two Evils candidate vs Gore, and managed to do a worse job than his dad, with the possible exception of the war (which I think could have been handled a hell of a lot better.) Bush's attempt to be the "National Security" president is nonsense, thanks to his refusal to even TRY to button up our borders and his misguided desire to grant amnesty to 20 million illegal aliens. Medicare D didn't help him much either, as this was yet another ridiculous burden placed on the taxpayer. Then in his final days, he pulls the TARP crap, which has been an abysmal failure by anyone's reckoning outside the beltway.
Pushed out the backbone? More like a self-inflicted gunshot to the head. The GOP has been following seriously bad advice; advice that comes from the least Conservative people in DC.

I can't believe I had completely forgotten about Dole? Duh.
Good points. I couldn't agree with you more.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Dole is pretty forgettable.
