Something To Hope For
My dear friend and collaborator Ghostie wrote to me recently, saying that she's starting to lose hope. She's not the only one; it's getting harder and harder to look forward to the future when so many things, like our current administration, seem bound and determined to throw us into a dystopic parody of our great country.
Cap and trade, HOPER health care, card check, Iran with nukes, our allies infuriated, our President making an abject fool of himself (and us) abroad, the UN's pitchfork-and-torches mob against Israel, the economy in the crapper, unemployment over 10% and rising, TARP, the various Scamulus bills, Commies in the Cabinet...
Okay, now, I'm starting to lose hope.
There are a lot of things to be worried about. But there are a lot of things that can certainly give us hope, even amongst the worrisome stuff.
Obama making an ass of himself abroad is certainly a concern, but from what I'm seeing, his actions are not reflecting so much on our nation. Our allies are hearing our criticism of our POSPOTUS, that we are, by approximately half the country, fed up with Obama's self-congratulatory self-adulation. Which is great, because it means that we stand a solid chance of repairing the damage he's done once we show him the door in 2012.
His attacks on Fox News is also a good thing; it's raised their ratings (which far surpassed all the other television "news" outlets prior to this stupidity) and it's shown, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that no one is allowed to disagree with His Highness. Think about that for a moment. Obama has effectively stated, by doing this, that as long as you agree with him, you are safe. Disagree with him, and you are an enemy. This is something the lefties should be gravely concerned about. Sure, they adore him and buy as many Obama Chia pets as they can afford...but what happens if he does something they DON'T like? Well, then they get Gibbs and Rahm and the other thugs calling them racists and what-all. They are finally starting to realize they have a tiger by the tail, especially the media. If Obama can try to blacklist one news organization, the only thing stopping him from doing the same to them is their obedience. And that obedience is costing them ratings and credibility.
Pelosi and the other liberal ilk in DC ramming through legislation without allowing anyone to read it is actually a good thing too. People from all walks of life and from all political preferences are getting rather fed up with this nonsense. The first sign of this was the concern that, after spending days shrieking that the first stimulus HAD to be passed NOW NOW NOW!, then Obama sitting on signing it for four whole days so he could have a weekend with the missus on the taxpayer's dime. Even the left-wing media was questioning this. And now we hear that the jobs "created or saved" was hugely inflated, and the money going to congressional districts that DON'T EXIST. I don't care if you are a rock-ribbed Reagan Conservative or a dyed-in-the-wool Communist, you can't read that and NOT think "corruption."
The whole AGW Cap and Trade thing, it's only getting better. Every time Gore and the rest of the doomsayers refuse to debate the AGW skeptics is a blow to their credibility. Every time Obama allows China to drill for oil off our shores or sends our tax dollars to another country to help them with their nuclear program while maintaining a moratorium on Americans drilling and expanding our nuclear program shows the hypocrisy rampant in this administration. Attempting to commit and force the US to pay for every molecule of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere while doing NOTHING to curb the much greater pollution of China and India further exposes this hypocrisy. Gore, Obama, and the rest of the AGW crowd are actually HELPING the skeptics by shredding their own credibility. Always a good thing.
The HOPER Health Care thing, even people on the left are questioning this. Imprisoning people for not buying health insurance? Using the Stupak Amendment to push the bill through the House, only to begin stripping it as soon as it hit Reid's desk? Voting through a bill that no one knows what's in it for sure? Not allowing anyone to read it, in this the "most transparent" House and Senate EVAR? Every time they pull a stunt like this, they lose more voters. And since HOPER care isn't going to go into effect until AFTER the 2012 election, we've got more than enough time to "abort" this bill once the Dems lose their majority in 2010.
Every day the economy looks horrible and unemployment continues to rise is another day filled with people coming to the conclusion that the current administration and leadership in our legislative branch either haven't got an effing clue, or they are PURPOSEFULLY screwing over the country. Neither bodes well for them keeping their jobs for much longer.
And the greatest hope of all is already coming to pass; more and more average Americans are getting off their butts and DOING something. Tea Parties, grassroots, the surge in new political blogs, so many of which lean distinctly to the right, people are sick of the BS in DC, sick of being insulted and ignored by the people they voted for. We're sick of being forced to pay for crappy service. If this was a restaurant, the government would be the snotty waiter who spits in our food, gets the order wrong, flirts with our wives, then not only expects us to pay for the "service", but we must also leave a large tip. More and more Americans are saying HELL NO. We're standing up, calling the manager over, and if nothing else, giving the snotty waiter a solid headbutt and kick to the 'nads.
We DO have many things to feel hope about, dear reader. But we can not sit idly by and expect these things to just happen. The gains we have made have been a result of people getting involved. The more people getting into the mix, the more effect we will have. Do SOMETHING, whether it's organizing a Tea Party, or writing articles like this, or just making some goofy little cartoons. The attempt is no guarantee of success, but doing nothing IS a guarantee of failure.

I lost hope back in January and have been unemployed since. 8 calls in 11 months. How's that for hope and change?
I contacted my genius Representative and was told by a staffer that he would be voting against Healthcare. They/he lied. I sent them an email telling him that I would work in earnest for, and with, anyone running against him next year. I honestly don't think he cares. I'm sure they have some ass-covering provision in that bill protecting them against retribution.
Obama and the entire ilk with him are the most unseasoned, rank amateurs I've ever had the misfortune of watching.
AmericanSpectator has a story calling O a buffoon. I think that's quite proper. Hillary says she has a crush on her British counterpart via thesun.co.uk.
The list is seemingly endless. Keeping abreast of the daily news does nothing but bring despair.
The most evil thing in this country is the liberal intelligentisia. People need to wake up and purge that mindset from campuses, media, and politics. Will that ever happen? I don't think so? It's too easy to complain and not do anything.
I haven't lost all hope though. It's early and this is a ramble. Sorry.

What's your take on the Grahamn vs. Holder debacle yesterday? I think Holder came across as a rank amateur in the wrong position.

Our prayers are with you, Hoss. Far too many in our country are experiencing the same. And it's good that you haven't completely lost hope. I wish I had some piece of advice to give you, something to help you get through this. All I can say is that things are bound to get better, and that they are looking better every day.

I saw a snippet of Graham laying into Holder. I don't like Lindsey Graham. I think he's a RINO, and another one of the big problems in the GOP: another elected elitist that doesn't give an ass's rat about the Conservative base.
But credit where credit is due, I was nearly applauding the footage of him ripping Holder a new one. If the kids hadn't already been put to bed, I probably would have cheered out loud.
Graham's got the right of it; by putting KSM into our criminal justice system, a first year pre-law student could get his case tossed. Hell, anyone that's seen more than three episodes of Matlock could get this case tossed. He wasn't Mirandized so everything he's said will be thrown out. I doubt the search warrant was up to criminal court standards, so everything seized will be out. He was "tortured" while in custody, so everything he's confessed will be thrown out.
In Discovery, every technique used to get these monsters to talk is going to be made public, which means our enemies will know EXACTLY what to condition themselves against. Every scrap of information we've managed to get from these scum will be made public, so our enemies will know what assets to cut and what assets are still safe. And our enemies will be emboldened, knowing that even if they get captured, all they have to do is whine really loudly and they'll be back on the streets in a matter of MINUTES.
Not to even mention what all this is doing for our own soldier's morale.

Thanks for you opinion, Ghost.
Here's a money quote via drudge...
Obama arrived on the base 3:19 p.m. local time (1 a.m. Eastern Standard Time), and received a rousing welcome from 1,500 troops in camouflage uniforms, many holding cameras or pointing cell phones to snap pictures.
"You guys make a pretty good photo op," the president said.

I have so much confidence in his leader"less"ship.

Actually, I'm TFMo (Mo for short). Ghost is the lady who runs this site. I'm just the comedy relief.
Posted by: TFMo at November 19, 2009 08:26 AM
Ok. Thanks for the clarification, Mo.
Is jbyp a clone site you're migrating to?
Posted by: hoss at November 19, 2009 09:03 AM
Sister site, actually...I tend to crosspost nearly every thing I write or draw between here and there. I plan on adding a few other features, like book and movie reviews and such over there.

I also have an art gallery there, featuring all my political comics; the Lil' O-Bama strips, all my Baby Blogs, and a few miscellaneous doodles, like my Blood From A Stone piece that wasn't NEARLY as popular as it should have been.

TFMo...thanks, I really needed this...you cheered me up. With people like you in this country, really, how can we lose this battle?
We can't...and won't.
Back to being the queen of MAXXXIMUM OUTRAGE again...
